The Boulder Office of Disaster Management is the best place to go for updates about major incidents within Boulder County. Their website also includes a wide selection of valuable resources for homeowners and residents. Below is a sample of the information they have on their site about emrgency alerts.

Emergency Alert System Information

Do not wait for emergency alerts if you feel your safety is compromised, take appropriate actions!

Sign-up to receive emergency alerts for unincorporated areas of Boulder County and all municipalities, including the portions of Erie and Longmont that extend outside of the Boulder County line. Signing up for an Everbridge opt-in account automatically registers you for the message categories below as well as for critical weather alerts. Non-Boulder County individuals are strongly encouraged to register with their County emergency alert system.

If you have a landline from Century Link or VOIP phone from Xfinity/Comcast, your number is automatically updated in our system. We suggest that you also create an opt-in profile that contains your mobile device information. When creating your account, consider entering the addresses for your home, work, child’s school, loved ones, etc. You can choose to receive voice calls, text messages, TTY/TDD, emails or faxes. We encourage you to create a profile for every person in the household that has a mobile device. If an address listed on your profile is within the geographical boundary created by public safety officials for an event, you will receive information through your chosen contact paths.

Messages are categorized as prepare to take action or immediate action is required. We have categorized these as follows:

Advisory: Informational message about an emergency situation that is likely to impact one of the addresses listed on your profile.

Warning: Prepare to take action for you and your family due to an emergency situation affecting one of the addresses listed on your profile. Individuals needing extra time to mobilize should take immediate action when a Warning notification is issued.

Order: Take required action immediately due to an imminent life threat.

Below are the most common actions:

Climb to Higher Ground: This may be as simple as scurrying up a hillside in the immediate vicinity, can save your life in flooding emergencies.

Evacuation: Most commonly issued during wildfire but may be used for law enforcement or HAZMAT situations when public safety officials need you to leave the area.

Shelter in Place: Issued for law enforcement situations or other emergencies when public safety officials determine it is safer for the community to remain indoors until the situation is resolved.

Missing/Endangered Person(s): Public safety officials may send this notification if they are needing the community to be aware of a missing or endangered person.

All Clear: A follow-up to previous messages issued after public safety officials determine the hazard has been mitigated and no longer presents a threat to the community.

You will automatically receive Tornado and Flash Flood Warnings issued by the National Weather Service for any address(es) listed on your account.

You can stop receiving notifications by removing contact information or deleting your profile.
